All-USA Scholarship

All-USA Scholarship Information and Deadlines

What is the All-USA Scholarship?

The All-USA Scholarship Competition is open to any EMCC student who will be transferring to a 4-year institution of higher education in 2026. Awards take effect for Fall 2026 transfer enrollment.

In Fall 2025, Estrella Mountain Community College will nominate two students for the 2026 All-USA Academic Team Scholarship, which is sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society. The scholarship pays for two full years of tuition to one of our three Arizona public universities (ASU, NAU, or U of A) with money awarded for transfer in Fall 2026.

If you are interested in applying for this scholarship, please access the PTK scholarship portal at https://scholarships.ptk.org/. Applicants who are not PTK members will be able to register as a guest in order to complete their application.

As you are preparing for this scholarship application, it is helpful to note that one of the requirements for the application is a letter of recommendation. The application may give you an option to have your recommender email it directly to the PTK scholarship email; however, the EMCC All-USA Scholarship committee requires you to have it uploaded at the time of completing your application. That means you must have your recommender send you the letter of recommendation so you can have it uploaded when you submit your application by the deadline.

Specific details on eligibility and application due dates are listed below. Please note that the PTK website lists the Fall 2025 scholarship deadline as December 2, 2025. However, students who want to be considered for the All-USA nomination need to follow the submission deadlines provided below, so the committee has time to judge the applications.

The Selection Process

Round One
In 500 words or less, describe your most significant endeavor since attending community college in which you applied your academic or intellectual skills learned during your college experience to benefit your school, community, or society. This endeavor may be in community/service learning, in research, in the arts, journalism, advocacy, public affairs, etc. Consider using measurable terms, steps taken, and quantifying the outcome using impact data and numbers. Limit your essay to ONE specific endeavor. Do not include web links or photos in your essay. Submit your essay to the EMCC PTK email ([email protected]) by October 5, 2025, at 11:59 pm. Please submit the essay as a Word Document attachment and include your full name and student ID in the email. Essays will be submitted to a committee of EMCC judges, who will consider originality, initiative, degree of difficulty, results, and benefit to society. Additionally, essays are scored blindly, meaning the judges will not be made aware of your name, so you must not mention your name in your essay. If you are selected as a semi-finalist for Round Two, you will be notified via email by October 27, 2025, 5:00 PM.

Round Two
Complete the online scholarship application on the PTK website: https://scholarships.ptk.org/. The application consists of short-answer questions and short essays. It is not something that can effectively be completed in one day! So, be sure to start the application as soon as possible. Submit your completed application on the PTK website by November 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Additionally, a Word Document will be sent to you to copy and paste your answers from the online scholarship application on the PTK website. This document only requires you to do some simple copy-and-paste of what you submit to the online scholarship application. It is not for you to answer any new questions or complete an additional application. The document will need to be sent back to this email: [email protected] as a Word Document by November 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Again, the document only requires you to do some simple copy-and-paste of your answers and some checkboxes. You must send it as a new email with the subject line: "All-USA Scholarship" by the deadline above. Please plan ahead.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You will also need a letter of recommendation to upload to your application. The application may give you an option to have your recommender email it directly to the PTK scholarship email; however, the EMCC All-USA Scholarship committee requires you to have it uploaded at the time of completing your application. That means you must have your recommender send you the letter of recommendation so you can have it uploaded when you submit your application by November 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM.

Please note that this is a highly competitive scholarship competition. Please review all information very carefully before submitting and follow all guidelines. Please avoid waiting until the last minute. Applicants who fail to follow any guidelines, fill out all information correctly, and/or complete all items by the deadline will be disqualified. In order to ensure fairness, no exceptions will be made regardless of the reasons. If you are selected as one of the two official nominees of EMCC, you will be notified via email (from EMCC PTK email: [email protected]) by the first week of December 2025.
